'CMA Flyering At CBS' --------------------- (October 8, 2004) Chicago Media Action will do an educational outreach action soon at CBS's Channel 2 on Columbus Day Oct. 11. CBS News (owned by Viacom International, Inc.) has cancelled a long overdue '60 Minutes' report on the White House's deceiving the public to invade Iraq. CBS gives a political, not a journalistic reason for suppressing the report. "It would be inappropriate to air the report so close to the election." Can we expect all of the mighty news companies so easily to cave in to their fear of right-wing ideologues? What other of their news is CBS suppressing? And what news and reports will they never even consider doing, now that Viacom boss Sumner Redstone unapologetically supports the incumbents?! Is Viacom turning its CBS News into another Fox News? CMA will be flyering October 11 (and possibly again October 18) from 3 pm to 6 pmat the company's offices north of the Loop. It might be just a few of us flyering the public. Or many peace coalition friends might join in to make it a bigger statement. Some articles about this CBS News self-censorship are at www.campaigndesk.org/archives/000957.asp, www.mediachannel.org/news/2004-0927.shtml, and www.freepress.net/news/4790. Viacom also has WBBM-AM 780 ('NewsRadio') and 6 other Chicago radio station licenses. All Chicago radio stations are up for renewal right now. General information about Viacom, CBS News, WBBM-TV 2, and WBBM-AM 780 is at www.9898.us/3/miviacomchi.htm. Come and help. Bring friends. (Article submitted by CMA's Bob Gallie.)
